Forced to Watch, 2017.

This video is a compilation of original and found footage compiled to show how the original films that have influenced our ways of looking at women are still relevant today. In 1973 Laura Mulvey published the essay “Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema” discussing the idea of the male gaze where films, such as ones created by Hitchcock, put the spectator in a masculine subject position, with the woman on screen as the object of desire. This video creates a visual connection between those older films and the spectacle of a woman’s body still ongoing in today’s society.
